From the Desk of the Million Dollar Sis
During the last week of September, I was looking at a paystub from the past 2 1/2 weeks that I was going to get paid from since being called to temporary active duty in El Paso. Why was I there? (stop being so nosy lol). I was seeing off a group of warriors headed across the water (I love what I do, btw).
During that same week, I was made aware of the shutdown. I said, "ain't no way!" about 20 -100 times that week. Shutdowns aren't scheduled, so only God knows when it will end. To be totally transparent, more than half of my income comes from me being in the army, especially after I've been promoted (big Master Sergeant (MSG). However, when I looked at that paystub, I said to myself, "I gotta make something shake!" I just moved into a new place (because my deployment got canceled) and I'm still a whole mom. This just won't do!
If you know me, then you know I do military funeral honors. I love it (more about that at another time). Even though I wasn't being paid for them at the moment, I kept calm and kept my eyes on the prize... the money that was going to be back pay. Army money is important because I use it to pump into my other businesses, reinvest, and all that. It has kept me from taking out unnecessary loans and things like that.
But... let me tell you about this idea that I had.
I've never been too good at begging, but I am good at selling something! I can sell everything but me and my family (I know some of y'all are saying you'd sell an uncle or cousin if you could... smh lol). Not only that, I'm pretty much secretly in love with technology.
Do you know what the dot card is? It's a digital business card. In case you didn't know, a digital business card is a modern, paperless way to share your contact information, website, and social links instantly using a tap, scan, or click. It replaces traditional paper cards with a smart, reusable option that keeps your brand accessible and up to date. I had actually ordered a Dot card after a friend recommended it to me, and I was like... naaaaaa, I can do that myself.
So the idea... I started making MY version of a digital business card that you just have to "tap" to a smartphone and BAM... your website can pop up, link in bio can pop up, you can send a text message, or make a phone call. Annnnnnd, I won a laser from Mac.Bid and used the laser to engrave either someone's name, logo, or business name onto the card (that's better than it saying "Dot")! Don't you think? I sure did. Annnnnnndddddd, I would create a custom link in bio sites on Canva that I could program onto the card for a few bucks extra. I call it The Million Dollar Tap. I just want to take this time to thank God for my mother, for introducing me to a computer at such a young age (forever the GOAT).
For 43 days, I was able to keep up with my bills with The Million Dollar Tap. I absolutely needed the money, but instead of begging, I thought about how I could provide a valuable service to my colleagues and the people that I serve, entrepreneurs.
I had set up at vendor events, added a listing on Etsy for it, and have been DM'ing my friends/family on social media. I made a video on YouTube about it, too! All of those tactics worked! I was playing no games, and I still don't. I feel really good knowing that I earned that money by providing something useful. I feel good knowing that I didn't fold and I kept the light at the end of the tunnel in my focus. I most of all feel Good knowing God took the lead on all of that based on what he's been instilling in me.
But of course, we all know that true hustlers should ALWAYS keep a hustle ready to deploy at any time. But old and new ideas like mine keep you in demand and sought after.
So to conclude this week's journal entry, if you'd like to support and get an outstanding product, you can get your Million Dollar Tap by going to my Etsy Store.
